How To Turn Fear Into Adrenaline
Is Fear Holding You Back?
I get asked this question a lot from my coaching clients. The usual answers I get are “I have no money ”, “I lack the qualifications”, “my background”, or even “I’m not sure which direction to take.”
What I’ve learned over the years as a coach, is that while all of these may be part of holding you back, and can impact on your success, its not the deciding or primary factor.
Do you know what is preventing people and depriving them of the success they desire and deserve?
It Is Fear!
“Not me, I am fearless” I hear you say, but here’s the thing, fear is part of our make up as human beings.
It is there to protect us. There are some things we should be afraid of like swimming with the sharks or putting your hand in a tiger’s cage.
But what about our achievements? We should be embracing those successes, mastering new skills and enjoying our wins. We pretend not to know that fear may be holding us back.
How To Fight The Invisible Enemy
Fear often leads to inaction during a crisis situation. We are so afraid that we stay in our comfort zone and therein lies the danger.
The key is to turn that fear into adrenaline. Its a hormone that is secreted during stressful moments. Instead of running away from your fear, feel it embrace it. Visualise Yourself overcoming that fear.
A CEO who was in the Royal Commandos stated.” I often draw from military experience to address challenging business situations.
In the elite forces of the military all ranks are taught to “expect the unexpected.” There is no room for paralysis, the forces move forward regardless of the unknown.
Fear is relegated to the background as the mission unites everyone in motion. When the enemy starts shooting, the human instinct is to lie down.
In wartime soldiers must resist this urge. Thanks to a biological rush of adrenaline, excellent training and leadership, they are able to do the unthinkable: get up and fight.
